Senior Laboratory Technician

Fixed term post on Grade 6: £28,660 - £34,189 p.a.

Applications are invited for a Senior Laboratory Technician, to support a team working with Professor Paul Riley on a research programme in Cardiovascular Regenerative Medicine.

The successful applicant will support Oxford-based investigators within the Oxbridge BHF Centre for Regenerative Medicine by establishing and providing surgical animal models for the study of cardiovascular disease and regeneration. Responsibilities will include performing surgical procedures to create rodent models of cardiac disease, injury and repair, training other members of the team in surgical techniques, colony management, post-operative care of animals in line with Home Office License regulations and processing samples.

You will hold a first class degree in a relevant field, or have relevant demonstrable experience. You will have previous laboratory experience and an interest in cardiovascular disease and regenerative medicine. You will have a good understanding of service provision in a research environment, and hold (or be capable of obtaining) a Home Office personal license with the relevant authority to conduct the required procedures. You should be adaptable, keen to learn new techniques and demonstrate enthusiasm and responsibility, with a willingness to work independently and as part of a team.

Ideally, you will have experience of surgical models of injury in rodents, and experience of working with animals in a scientific context. You may also have experience in cell culture, microscopy and image analysis.

You will be based in the Sherrington Building, Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics, Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3PT.

The position is funded by the British Heart Foundation, until 30th September 2021 in the first instance.

The closing date for applications is noon on Friday 21st June 2019.

Interviews are likely to be held the week beginning Monday 8th July 2019.

Informal enquiries should be directed to Professor Paul Riley, Director of the BHF CRM (paul.riley@dpag.ox.ac.uk).
